For Danfoss frequency inverter VLT® HVAC Drive FC 102When the speed reference of a frequency converter is reduced, the motor actsas a generator and the brake of the frequency converter is applied. When themotor is operating as a generator, it supplies energy to the frequency inverter, whichis collected in the DC link. The function of the braking resistor is to act as a load on thethe DC link so that the braking power can be absorbed by the braking resistor.If no braking resistor is used, the voltage in the DC link of the frequency inverter wouldcontinue to rise until the fuse is tripped and the circuit is interrupted. The advantage ofusing a braking resistor is that high loads can be braked quickly. The compact brake resistor has an aluminum housing with pre-assembled brackets forwall mounting. It is designed for a high pulse load of 60 times rated load, and thereforesuitable for horizontal and for vertical applications.
